Bon Secours
Bon Secours traces its roots as a Catholic Health Ministry back to France where in 1824, Josephine Potel went to Paris and joined with eleven other like-minded women whose concern for the needs of the sick and the poor led to the formation of the Congregation of the Sisters of Bon Secours. In 1881, three Sisters, in response to an invitation from the Archdiocese of Baltimore, left France and came to America. The rest, as they say, is history. Today, the Bon Secours Health System is serving the greater Hampton Roads area with 3 main hospitals: DePaul Medical Center in Norfolk, Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, and Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News. A leading provider of medical care, Bon Secours has continued to expand here in Hampton Roads with Assisted Living Residences, Health Centers, Nursing Care Facilities, and a Behavoral Medicine Center augmenting and supporting the hospitals.
