In 1824, Paris, France, a small group of women did something innovative. They went to homes and lived with families to provide care for their ill, an unconventional approach to meeting a need. These women with caring hearts, the Sisters of Bon Secours, met this need through caring and innovation.
Some 172 years later, the Sisters of Bon Secours continue meeting the needs of our communities through caring and innovation. One of the more unique challenges for seniors is receiving care while remaining as independent as possible, says Eileen Malo, Vice-President for Continuing Care. The new assisted living facility at DePaul, Province Place, addresses those unique needs.
Province Place of DePaul is designed to better serve older adults by offering more living options. Senior adults are living longer, healthier lives and are discovering that staying in their home is not always the best option for their lifestyle. The best option is often assisted living communities. Assisted living communities can provide personal assistance and can relieve many of the burdens associated with caring for a house.

Province Place is located on the corner of Granby and Whitney Streets, and is part of the DePaul LifeCare Campus. The new facility, which opens in late March of this year, will be capable of serving 81 residents living in 75 private suites and three companion suites. Every suite will have a private sitting area, bath, and kitchenette. Suites are arranged in groups of ten, called neighborhoods. In each neighborhood there is a living area, family room, country kitchen and formal dining room. This design element is not only unique, it is critical to our mission. Bon Secours places a high value on preserving the privacy and the dignity of those in our care. The neighborhood concept allows us to address those needs but it also provides opportunities for residents to interact with others, says Malo.
In addition to the traditional suites, there will be 18 suites designed to provide special care for individuals with Alzheimers Disease and other forms of dementia. The community will also feature a screened-in front porch, central living room, prayer room, activities room, beauty/barber shop, whirlpool bathing area, and courtyards.
