Things are happening in Portsmouth, and no wonder! As if SeniorFest and The Successful Aging Forum were not enough, now Senior Health will be bringing on a full-time coordinator for Portsmouth, open its own office and begin a brand new transportation program!
"Each time we have an event centered in Portsmouth I have seniors approach me and inquire as to when we would be doing more in Portsmouth. Well I'm happy to say that we are responding to your requests," states Steve Zollos, Director of Bon Secours Senior Health.
Heading up our Portsmouth division will be Joanne Jones-Merinar who comes to us after many years of service to the Beazley Senior Center. Joanne has over 10 years of experience in developing senior programming and is a certified Body Recall instructor. She will be overseeing the development of our programming in Portsmouth.
"One of my first objectives will be to organize and implement the new transportation program," says Joanne. "We have already acquired a brand new handicap accessible van. Now all we need is a driver and some volunteer support to help with the day-to-day operations."
The transportation program is being designed for Portsmouth residents who are age 55 or older, and who have no other means of transportation. Transportation is FREE and will be provided for medical related appointments only. The program will operate Monday - Thursday. Rides can be scheduled for medical appointments between 9 am and 2 pm. The last pick-up time for rides home will be at 3 pm. For more information, or to welcome Joanne to her new position, contact her at 757-398-2278. |
