Health Beat

Dr. Anand Kapur, a graduate of Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, provides insight in this quarter’s health beat on a field of medicine that’s not often thought of by seniors but is exactly what they need! Sports Medicine.

“The best way to enjoy our longevity is to take care of our bodies, particularly our muscles and bones,” states Dr. Kapur.

A primary care sports medicine specialist spends time helping you to relieve the causes of your pain. Dr. Kapur investigates all the treatment options that are available for his patients before suggesting surgery. Physical therapy is often used to strengthen muscles, taking stress off of your bones and joints. Acupuncture is another treatment option that has been shown to help manage pain.

Dr. Kapur also reminds us that all arthritis does not cause pain. He explains that non-symptomatic severe arthritic joints are sometimes found incidentally on x-rays. However, there are some patients who have arthritis that is painful and adversely affects their quality of life.

Arthritis is an inevitable part of the aging process, but with the advances in sports medicine it doesn’t have to affect your active/energetic life-style.
